The Weather Channel

Best known for bringing television viewers up-to-date weather forecasts, The Weather Channel began broadcasting in 1982. Now, an accurate resource online, The Weather Channel provides weather data through Weather STAR® or Satellite Transponder Addressable Receiver system. The Weather Channel meteorologists use this data plus data from the National Weather Service to make accurate forecasts. The Weather Channel is able to provide local, custom forecasts by using cable locations to decode the Weather STAR® transmissions. The Weather Channel website allows users to customize forecasts, including data on special reports, travel forecasts and road conditions for specific areas of interest.

The National Weather Service

This site is the premier source of weather data in the United States. Many websites and news organizations rely on weather data from the National Weather Service when making forecasts and alerts. Users of the National Weather Service website can find accurate local forecasts, alerts and weather warnings.

This site includes all weather and climate data available around the United States. It provides a varied degree of data from elaborate forecasting models to simple forecasts and warnings. Users can click on the large U.S. map to zoom in to any desired location. This site is highly recommended by many meteorologists and climatologists.

Weather Underground Inc.

Wunderground.com prides itself at being “The First Internet Weather Service”, as it was started in 1991. Weather Underground Inc. provides daily forecasts using data from over 18,000 weather stations in the U.S.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration operate the other segment of weather stations. AccuWeather describes itself as the “World’s Weather Authority” providing U.S. and worldwide local forecasts. AccuWeather began offering its services on the Internet in 1995, after a long history of providing weather services to television and radio stations.

AccuWeather has developed a “10-Day Hour-by-Hour” forecasts for locations throughout the world. AccuWeather specializes in commercial services, with high advertising content.

Environment Canada

Environment Canada weather website provides local forecasts, current condition maps and radar and satellite maps for the entire country. Warnings and bulletins issued are highly visible to users. More in-depth weather information is included in forecasting model data and charts, including monthly and seasonal forecasts.

The Weather Network

The Weather Network provides accurate forecasts available online or through e-mail alerts using WeatherDirect. Users can view weather maps of Canada, road conditions, weather statistics and even golf course conditions around the country.

Australia Bureau of Meteorology

Provided by Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), this website provides weather data and forecasts for the entire country. Accurate and up-to-date radar and satellite maps are available for internet users. Warnings and climate reports are issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.

The World Meteorology Organization

The World Meteorology Organization website provides current weather conditions and data for locations worldwide. The site also includes climatological information, aiding users in comparing weather data. Weather forecasts can be read in a variety of languages, with measurements in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
